Searlait Doherty
School Counsellor
My name is Séarlait Doherty and I am from a small town on the North-West coast of Ireland. I am currently studying a MSc in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy and I also hold a MSc in Psychology, a PGCE with SEN: Inclusion and a BA in Humanities with English and Human Development. I have lived in the UAE for almost seven years, where I have worked both as a teacher and school counsellor. The theoretical underpinning of my counselling approach is Pluralism. Pluralism is, at its core, a collaborative approach to counselling; focused on working with the cultural resources available to each client and the uniqueness of each individual's needs. I use a strength based, goals focused approach, integrating skills from a range of therapeutic approaches such as Person Centred Therapy, CBT, DBT, ACT and Play Therapy.
